The most intriguing thing for me about making art is that the result is always unexpected. No matter how well I plan, somehow in the do, the process of making the art, the piece never matches what was in my imagination, it is always a work in process, a work in progress. Reflecting on the process and the piece, I always learn something new that causes me to make the next piece to reflect the new vision that the learning has brought. For me, a finished piece of art is never an ending but always a beginning, allowing me to reflect and create all at the same time.
Reading, writing, drawing, photographing my work and studio in series over time, using up pieces that were previously unused, I add to my story, layer by layer, while, at the same time, little by little I peel back the layers. Somehow, I am always surprised to find that no matter how much progress I make in the process I always seem to be right back where I started from.
