Hello
My name is Dennis Crocker and I was a member of Hampton's Legion for over ten years. I was serving as President this year and was vice president for two years before that. I was also the Lieutenant of the cavalry. I am sad to say I have resigned from Hampton's Legion. There are several reasons for this and I would like to explain some of them to you.
First off for the past several years we have participated in a Living History in Abbeville,South Carolina. This event was known as Old South Christmas. This name is owned by Robert Hayes and he has refused to allow the Yankees that live in Abbeville to take this event over. He has canceled Old South Christmas and that is a fact. They have started an event named Old Abbeville Christmas which is not the same. I would encourage any true Southerner not to attend this event. I know for a fact that the chamber complained about the small Confederate flags being handed out during the parade. They also complained about the parade being lead with a Confederate flag. Is that the type of people you want to support with your money and time? I for one will not sell my heritage for a pat on the head by a bunch of Yankees. I guess I should not expect any more from what I consider a group of mostly reconstructed scalawags.
Folks like I said I have been reenacting for over ten years. To most reenacting is no different than playing golf or fishing. It is just something they like doing. I have no problem with that,if that is want they want to do. For me it to honour my ancestors and the cause for which they gave so much. Let me ask you a question. If they were right then what has changed? The answer is nothing. We are an occupied Country. The Declaration of Independence gives us the right of self government. Please take time to read it. Do yourself a favor read the book The South was Right. It will give you a better understanding of what is going on.
I will be starting a new group by the first of the year.While I am not trying to recruit members from any existing groups, if you are not happy with the unit you are in give me a call or email. My goal is to bring in new unreconstructed Southerners,who want to honour our Confederate ancestors. We will have both mounted and dismounted units. We will have a $1,000,000 insurance policy ,which you will be required to have before taking the field with us.This will be available at a reasonable price. If you are interested contact me, unlike a lot of other units you will receive a response in a timely manner.
