For Weakling Willie, living the life of a Rhinoceros Beetle is hard...especially when his muscles don't work right. Willie knew he was not strong and that his muscles would make it difficult for him to face the challenges ahead that a Rhinoceros Beetle must face.

Willie wonders every day why he was born as a Rhinoceros Beetle - the strongest creature on Earth - without strong muscles? Can he face the challenges a beetle must face in order to survive in the rainforest? Maybe Willie is stronger than he thinks!

The DuMond Family & friends make the cover of MDA's Magazine!
Zack was diagnosed with Pompe Disease on January 30, 2007. Pompe is a rare and progressive metabolic disease of the muscle. It results in weakened muscles in the trunk and legs, respiratory issues, scoliosis, loss of balance & possible body deformity. It occurs in 1 in 40,000 births worldwide.

Fortunately, treatment for Pompe was FDA approved in 2006. Zack receives Enzyme Replacement Therapy (Myozyme) by way of infusion every other week. As of May 2010, Zack has had 72 infusions. Zack had extensive scoliosis surgery in June of 2009. Recovery & rehab have been painstakingly slow but Zack has done great and is getting stronger every day! We are so blessed.

The proceeds from Weakling Willie will go to those organizations who have helped us navigate our way through this disease. They have provided Clinical care, equipment, knowledge, support and valuable resources.
These organizations are the Muscular Dystrophy Association, The United Pompe Foundation and the Acid Maltase Deficiency Association. Please see 'favorite links' to visit their websites.
