Memphis Poems and Other Writings by Bobbi Baker
Celebrating the Sights and Sounds of Memphis, Tennessee, presented southern style:
Like a plateful of somethin' familiar smothered with a thick sauce of something just
hot and spicy enough to cause you to break a sweat and head for the nearest shower.

LIGHTED SHADOWS: INTIMATE STRANGERS

You are lighting my shadows
Invading my secret darkness.
Be gentle, go slowly,
I think you'll find me nice.
On paper, thoughts are naked.
Touch them as you will.
Then, after you know them all
So very well
Feel for me in the dark-
Feel as I have felt
For a sign of the familiar.
We are intimate strangers.
Clinging to our shadows
But reaching beyond
Past each other-
Into the Caves of our own minds.
Turn off the light
And don't be afraid.
I think you'll find it nice
To have someone light your shadows.
