Welcome to our web pageFrom May to August we visited various National Parks in the northwest. After Labor Day we backpacked the entire 220 mile Superior Hiking Trail. This trail, mostly atop the Sawtooth Mountains and along Lake Superior, runs from Thunder Bay, Canada to Two Harbors, MinnesotaIn 2008 Bill has been the "Make a Wish" Husband and "Sherpa Galore" providing support to Michaelyn as she slowly increased her daily mileage in preparation for this final summer backpacking adventure. We experienced a cool summer in the mountains of Rocky Mountain National Park (CO), wilted in massive summer heat in Arches NP and Dead Horse Point SP (UT), and met tourists from all over the world in Bryce and Zion NP (UT). After fantastic day hikes in the Grand Tetons NP and leisurely strolls in Yellowstone NP (WY), by August we only hiked two days in Glacier NP (MT) before it became really cold. Sleet and deep cloud cover made it impossible to hike or see any mountain vistas. By the time we arrived in Minnesota, the gorgeous fall colors and moderate temperatures lifted our spirits as we began Michaelyn's longest through-hike to date. After five months of separation Michaelyn will once again be the "Trailer Angel" as Bill does a YO-YO on the AT. That's going north from Springer Mountain State Park in Georgia to Maine and then going South back to Georgia. A total of over 4,000 miles. Then they'll take a break for Thanksgiving with their son, Ben. Their adventures continue as they thru-hikein the winter in various areas of the southeast. |
