The small community of Farmington is unique to Oconee County, Georgia. It and much of the southern third of the county still represent the charm and rural character that have made Oconee County such a desirable place to live. Yet, that quality of life is being threatened by rampant residential and commercial development encroaching from the northern portion of the county.

The citizens in south Oconee County are encouraged to unite behind an effort to establish Citizens for South Oconee County. The main goal of this organization will be to provide a voice for communities such as Farmington and other unincorporated regions of south Oconee so that they can be more effectively represented in matters regarding:

1) County ordinances and zoning issues that impact the region.
2) The county’s Future Land Use Plan and it’s impact on zoning.
3) The county’s Comprehensive Economic Development Plan and it’s impact on the region.
4) Parks and recreation activities, especially regarding Heritage Park.
5) Historic preservation.
6) County road and infrastructure improvements.
7) And any other issue that impacts south Oconee County.
