Helpful Hints To Save Money for Homes and Businesses.

1. Have your heating system tuned and checked regularly by a HVAC contractor.

2. Adding a humidifier to your heating system may enable you to turn your thermostat down and still be comfortable at lower temperatures.

3. Install a zoning system to control and regulate airflow and temperature so you only have to heat areas of your home that you're using.

4. Clean or replace filters every two months.

5. You can lose up to 60% of your heated air, if your ducts are not insulated. Get a qualified professional to help you insulate and repair ducts.

6. A programmable thermostat can be preset to lower the temperature when you're sleeping or at work. The energy savings will offset the cost of a basic unit in less than one year.

7. Install a new energy efficient furnace to save money over the long term. Look for energy star. Sometimes Georgia Power offers rebates on certain equipment.

8. Use electric ceiling fans to boost both the efficiency and to circulate warm air away from the ceiling.

9. A heat pump can trim the amount of electricity you use for heating as much as 30%-40%.

10. Leave the thermostat set on 65 degrees or below during the day. A two degree increase raises your costs 10% to 15% each time.

11. Check your ducts for leaks. Insulating ducts in unconditioned spaces is usually very cost effective.

12. Insulate your hot water heater and hot water pipes. Follow manufacturers directions or get professional help.
