The Rock Ark

Here It's Not Just Two by Twos!.

Welcome to My First Attempt at a WebSite!
I Finally found a web page that explained it Simply Enough that even I could understand it HERE. And Many Thanks to Jonny O, Who was There for All My Silly Questions!

It's Named The Rock Ark for Rock 'n Roll Archives. Forgive Me for the Limited Content right now, I'm recovering from a Total System Crash!! And for My Poor knowledge of html coding!...hahaha. For somebody who was Programming Computers in '78, '79, it's down right embarrassing.

I am Still Working on it , but if You were Here around March 19th-24th, Last Year You can see a Definite Improvement!

Yes, it's Been a Year...and Unfortunately, I let it Pass without Fanfare. But in My Defence, I was alittle Preoccupied with My First Grandchild being born 3/26/05

Also, I had Hoped to to have gotten more interaction, from Members and Friends this past year, ...lol...Only One Person has made Any Responce to the "Rock Trivia"!

I want ya'll to lemme know Who ya Think is a "Great Voice". Anyone from Billie Holiday, to Bon Scott, to Joss Stone.

In My humble opinion, Charlotte Church is a gimme! The Pure Beauty of Her Voice can bring Me to Tears. But, I'll let Ya'll do the Voting, I'll Post the Results.

Now, Back to the Ark

WOW ! ! ! Nice Library !!!...(weeziee152 On WinMX)

I Do Now Have My over 7000 Collected Files Accessible for Reference to the Various Artists and Groups that comprise the Backbone of this Near 100 Year Era. I also have a Wealth of Information on a Good percentage of those Great People. Unfortunatly, Getting all that Music and Information Linked Up, and Accessible to The Rock Arks Members, has left Me Little Time to Continue Work on these Pages. And I'm Just getting a Fair Start on it.

  • We'll Look in Depth into
    The History
What Made It what It Is Today
    The Background
The People and Events Around The Names We All Know
    The Origins
    Just Where Did It Begin
Of what has become Todays' Rock And Roll.

There IS A Trivia Page! The Answers CAN be found in This Material.

Rock-and-Roll

(räk'n roll') n. first so used (1951) by Alan Freed, Cleveland disc jockey, taken from the song "My Baby Rocks Me with a Steady Roll". The use of rock, roll, rock and roll, etc., with reference to sexual intercourse, is traditional in blues, a form of popular music that evolved in the 1950's from rhythm and blues, characterized by the use of electric guitars, a strong rhythm with an accent on the offbeat, and youth-oriented lyrics

Which is an Interesting Tidbit of Trivia, but I think We can find that theAmerican Blues evolved a little Earlier than The '50s.

And The Phrase Rock and Roll actually goes Back Much Farther than Most could ever Imagine!

Excerpts From... Hoy Hoy, Dawn of Rock

The term "rock and roll" was originally a nautical term which has been used by sailors for centuries. It refers to the rock (fore and aft motion) and roll (sideways motion) of a ship. The expression can be found in English literature going back to the 1600's, always referring to boats and ships.* The term entered black spiritual music in the 1800's, but with a religious meaning, and was first recorded as such on a phonograph in 1916, in a minstrel recording of black gospel on the Little Wonder record label called "The Camp Meeting Jubilee." #339

So, As You can see, My Research takes Us back Quite a Bit! And I may bounce around in the Process. I Only ask that You bear with Me. As I have said this IS My First Effort at a Web Page. and it has been some time since I have been through Most of this Material. hahaha...Not to Mention thru more than a couple of Computer Systems, and Setups! I still have 1.2gb Hard Drive from My Very First Computer, with Material, and References on it I haven't been back through.

But, just to say here's a start, let me introduce You to this Man, who was The First to be Inducted into The Country Music Hall of Fame, and was Eventually Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a Founding Father Of Rock n Roll

The Singing Brakeman.

Who is Sometimes Confused with this Friend of Elvis'

Since I Did just happen to mention "Elvis",...There is This...

Basically, this information has been out there for a long time. You should be ashamed if you still believe that Elvis Presley invented rock and roll during an unrehearsed jam at Sun records in 1954.

Rock and Roll / Rhythm and Blues from 1948 to 1953 was the greatest
music of all time, though few people know much about it today. The swing
era was dead and the jump blues of WWII was in the decline when, in 1948,
the new beat was born. It was a rocking beat, a gut-level, hard-driving rhythm
like nothing before it. The year 1948 saw the birth of real rock and roll.

This Man did a Grand Job Nurturing the Newborn!

But Elvis Did give it a Good Shove into Public View!

For Those of You Willing to Face the Truth, and have the Heart, and True Desire to Know The ACTUAL Beginnings of Rock and Roll...

Excerpts From The History of Rock and Roll

This page begins with the African musical traits brought here beginning in 1619 and attempts to trace their fusion with the European music brought here by the colonists. The story of this musical interaction is also the story of American popular music and includes the plantation songs of Stephen Foster, the ragtime of Scott Joplin, the blues of Bessie Smith, the jazz of Count Basie, and the jump bands of Louis Jordan. The knowledge of the stream of American popular music allows one to understand that rock and roll was a natural result of the combined forces that affected the music.

Rock and Roll is an amalgamation of American popular music, combining Jump Blues, Western Swing, Plain Country picking and hollering with Pure Blues and a uptempo shuffle.

They didn't sing the Blues back in Africa. Rock 'n' roll is an African-American hybrid, but its strongest root is the very suffering, and survival, of generations of slaves, who learned how music could help a man to transcend earthly pain for awhile. The Blues sings of sadness, toil, and loss, but the reason for singing the Blues is to relieve the hurt these things cause.
