Play UNDERWATER HOCKEY. Palm Beach Underwater Hockey (pbuwh) has been in existence since 1979. UW hockey, or UWH, also goes by the older name of Octopush in the UK **** Underwater Hockey dramatically improves one's snorkeling and scuba skills and overall level of comfort in the water. West Palm Beach, Florida, underwater hockey practice and workouts are Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:15 to 7:45 pm (and Saturday mornings from 9:30 - 11:30 am if enough people request it in advance). Currently cost is $5 to $10 per session ($5 for students with an I.D.). For all but newbies, club dues must be current, and appropriate protective gear (mouth guards and ear protection) are mandatory for all. Palm Beach Underwater Hockey is the home of the Underwater Hockey 4 on 4 (now 5 on 5) "Championship of The Universe" every year in March. Click on the Championship of the Universe Tournament link above on the left. For the last five years now, 2008 - 2012, the tournament was held at the Jacobs Aquatic Center in Key Largo.

2011 Nationals were in Los Angeles June 24 - 26. Gainesville Underwater Hockey hosted Nationals in 2010. West Palm Beach came in fifth.
The Minnesota Loons Underwater Hockey Club hosted the 2009 USA Underwater Hockey Nationals on June 26, 27, and 28, 2009, at the University of Minnesota's Aquatic Center in Minneapolis, MN. Club Puck "A" team came in first place and the Gainesville, Florida, team came in 4th. Gainesville Underwater Hockey hosted the 2008 USA Underwater Hockey Nationals July 25, 26, and 27, in Gainesville, Florida. Palm Beach Underwater Hockey (pbuwh) came in 8th that year.

**** The weather sometimes does not co-operate. Take note though, that in Florida there may be squalls and small rain and thunder and lightning storms moving about. Sometimes lightning keeps us out of the water, but most of the time the lightning goes away and we do play, maybe starting late. And the pool is always warm, rain or shine.
