THE GOFFERS are a congenial group of south Florida (Fort Lauderdale/Broward County) gay and lesbian golfers of varying abilities. THE GOFFERS play every Wednesday and every Sunday on a local golf course. Here are descriptions of our outings:

WEDNESDAY GOLF

Winter Season: Every Wednesday - including Christmas and New Year’s weeks, between November 1st and April 30th THE GOFFERS play at noon at a golf course in Broward County. During the last winter season, we averaged about thirty-three players a week.

Summer Season: From May 1st through October 31st THE GOFFERS play every Wednesday, some at noon and some in the mornings, dictated predominately by the weather and the heat of the day. During the summer season, we may have only three foursomes, but usaually five or six.

THE GOFFERS consist of very good players, average players and mediocre players: all levels of play are welcome! We are a group of fun and courteous players, and we all adhere to the accepted rules of golf, including timely play. Large groups cannot afford slow play.

Each of THE GOFFERS has or is assigned a handicap based on the player’s average score for 18 holes on a regulation golf course (i.e., not a Par 3 or Executive course). Maximum handicap available in our group is 30. We will start you with your declared handicap (max. 30) and it will be adjusted by us until you have five scores. Thereafter, it is computerized either by us or by you.

Depending on the number of players we have either an individual or team game. Teams are created the Monday before the game by a blind draw. You will not play with the same person twice in the winter season. If you want to play with a specific person, the first time you play with the group, we can arrange to do so. Thereafter, you enter the blind draw.

At the end of the round, THE GOFFERS all gather in the lounge for drinks, fun and final score tally and possible skins. Each player contributes $10 to the pot. While the scoring is going on, we socialize. It is a cash bar. The pot is divided into a pre-announced fashion for the individual/team winner(s) and a skin pool.

Almost all of our communication is by email. Players without email capability call for times, places and other information every week.

On Thursday or Friday I will email everyone with the arrangements and plans for the next Wednesday: location, phone, directions, cost, time. Since most courses require guarantees for large groups, I PERSONALLY guarantee our tee times. By signing up, you acknowledge that cancellation after Monday at 5:00 pm may subject you to paying your green fee. In odd circumstances, you may even be required to pay for a full foursome. Even if you are not charged for the green fee by the course, you will be subject to a $20 late cancellation or no-show fee, which will be collected the next time you play with us. The $20 fee applies regardless of the cancellation/no-show reason.

Sometime after Wednesday’s round, I email the results of the day.
There are no dues or fees... just your green fees and the $10 entry. Green fees are paid individually at the pro shop; the $10 cash entry is paid after the round.

During the post game social hour, we pass the sign up sheet for the following week(s). The scoring announcements, skins, and post play banter make for great fun and camaraderie, and we hope you keep that extra hour or two open when you schedule to play.

SATURDAY GOLF

Every Sunday, year round, THE GOFFERS have a golf outing at PALM AIRE COUNTRY CLUB in Broward County. From October through May, we have tee times beginning about noon. The rest of the year, we begin around 9:00 AM

To bring and/or request to play with a specific partner, in a specific twosome, threesome or foursome, you must call or email THE GOFFERS. We make up the pairings. On occasion...if we get big enough crowds...the pro shop will organize some type of a team game for “FUN”, pride or perhaps simple prizes. There is no cost over your green fee for this game.

If Barry, Buddy, Dan or I happen to be playing, there is an optional money game, which has varied from month to month. The entry is $10 and we may pay multiple places.

At the end of the round, we all gather in the lounge for drinks, fun and final scores and prizes. Socializing afterwards is by cash bar. This is always great fun and not to be missed, so please allow the time!

I will remind those on my email list about the weekly outing every week. The course is always PALM AIRE. The time is always noon, and the prices are firm. Sign up or cancel no later than 5:00 PM on Wednesday. By signing up you acknowledge that cancellation later than 5:00 PM on Wednesday prior to the event may subject you to paying your green fee.

There are no dues or fees. You pay your green fee individually at the pro shop; you pay the $5 or $10 entry in cash for the optional game before the round.
